Gilbert had been surprised, to say the least, when the hulking creature had gently taken him into his forelegs and pulled him into his belly. The bear had the smell of an animal, but also the faintest hint of Matthew's smell. Set at ease, Gilbert rested his head against the other's chest, putting out his arms to awkwardly hug the creature back.
Matthew was still making sad little grunt whine noises which the German miraculously recognized as apologies for the injury to his face... which was really starting to hurt pretty badly. He could only imagine how it would look in the morning, hell, even now he could barely see out of his eye from the swelling.
He chuckling quietly, though, experience having taught him that it would only make the other boy feel worse if he acted injured. Instead, he rested his head against the bear and patted him gently. "I'm not hurt... don't worry 'bout that - I've literally had lots worse. Heh... once when we were kids, West accidentally knocked out my front teeth when we were playin' football."
He laughed, finding that this proximity was warm and dry and really rather comfortable. He could almost fall asleep here...
The fuzzy shelter moved, then and Matthew began to gently push Gilbert towards the door. Staggering a bit, Gilbert began to comply. It was dangerous out here, after all, and he didn't exactly feel like getting struck by lightning after being bitch slapped by a polar bear. One injury per drunken night was more than enough for him.
However, as he started to go inside, he turned to see Matthew curling in on himself on the pavement. The bear looked so dejected and sad that Gilbert couldn't help but go back to his side. Plopping himself down next to Matthew (but far enough away that, if he did end up getting struck, the bear wouldn't be hurt), Gilbert laid spread eagle on the ground. His clothes were soaked through, but the air was warm and humid yet. It was something like being in a warm shower... with all your clothes on and if showers blew the water sideways.
"I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed," Gilbert called over the deafening wind and crashing thunder. "You're actually really fuckin' awesome!"
He tilted his head back to grin at the polar bear, lifting his left hand to offer a thumbs up.
