Catalina glanced around the customers flowing in and out- villagers, students, and even a couple of teachers who she pretended not to notice- and sighed as she looked back down on the table to check the time on her phone. 5:27, three minutes before the time they're actually supposed to meet, but Catalina just happened to have arrived to the Tiki Lounge a bit early (and it had nothing to do with the occasion, not at all.)
Just the other day, she'd received a notification that she had finally been paired up with a hero to make a team. She honestly had no idea how the administration figured any of this out, since many of her previous teams had not gone that well, and that was a shared sentiment with many of the other students. The assistant principal had said that it was through a meticulous process that examined powers, personality, and other more minor factors, but Cat was sure that was a lie. It was practically a lottery, looking at the success rates, and the only really good teams seem to either be the first random one chosen by some stroke of luck, or ones that were formed by the students themselves.
Nevertheless, Cat was curious about this new teammate. The notification had given her a name, picture, and powers. Natalya Arlovskaya, huh? Sounds Russian. Her picture only supported that and she was a pretty one at that. The tidbit about the powers only said omnikinesis, without any details about limitations or strengths. Not that it's that upsetting, since if they are able to last more than two weeks, they can figure out each other's powers.
...The thought made her feel a bit ambivalent. Her own powers are very mentally based, so the less other people know about it, the better. Physical powers are usually easier to figure out in battle anyway so there's not much point in hiding it in a place like this, but Cat's works best with the element of surprise, since the victim will not know what's happening and be driven into a state of confusion if she was regressing them, or doesn't notice any influence is she's using subliminal messaging. Of course, Cat can still get the job done regardless of what the victim knows, but it sure makes things a lot easier.
Catalina glanced out the window, hoping to maybe catch a sight of her new teammate, but she didn't seem to be in sight. Cat sighed, crossing her legs and wondering how much time must pass.
