Will stared at the pink slip in his hand, then checked the number on the door of the room he was standing outside of. Yep, this was the room. He opened the door with a sigh, and entered the room. It really wasn't his fault that he got detention! Okay, he saw a senior bullying a freshman which happens. He understands that. Something inside him snapped when he saw the bully start using his powers on the freshman. He understands that. What he doesn't understand is why the bully gets off scot-free, and he's the one in detention. It just isn't fair!
He stepped into the room, and suddenly the temperature of the room seemed to increase. What the hell was going on? He quickly found himself a desk, and removed as much clothing as he could while still remaining decent. His gloves were the first thing to go, swiftly followed by the hoodie and sweatshirt he was wearing underneath it. Then he was down to his long-sleeved T-shirt which would just have to do, but the room was still far too warm. Doesn't this school have air-conditioning or something?!
"Hey!" Will said to the teacher in charge of detention. "What the hell is up with this room, and is the air conditioner even switched on?"
Without waiting for an answer he folded his arms on his desk and rested his head on them. In all the time he'd been at this school so far he'd never felt over-heated under his usual layers of clothes. What was so different about this room to cause something like this?

Trang grumbled, sitting at her usual desk in detention. It was rather sad that the girl was becoming a detention regular, due to her horribly out of check and explosive temper. She hadn’t MEANT to get so mad at that guy but he just wouldn’t stop annoying her. On and on he went, trying to chat to her about completely stupid and pointless things. Which she managed to ignore, because she was used to having a friend who loved to talk about stuff endlessly. Then, then the twit had decided that Trang wasn’t paying him enough attention so he started to poke her shoulder. She’d twitched a few times in annoyance, feeling her annoyance turn into anger but still was able to continue to ignore him. He must have decided that it was worth taking a stupid risk to get her attention because before she knew it the god damn guy was on and to make it worse, he was trying to make out with her.
Trang had snapped at that, entering full on rage mode. She pulled out her paddle, whacking him thousands of times over, screaming every vulgar word she knew at his slimy disgusting face as the area they were in shook violently along with her. Then, without another thought, she made a portal to one of the worst places she could think of, namely a large and barren desert, and threw him in there, calming down the instant the portal disappeared, taking him along with it. Of course a teacher had felt the shaking and ran over to see what was wrong. All she saw was Trang hitting the guy and throwing him in the portal. Needless to say she was no impressed.
So here Trang was, now serving out day 6 of her detention block. She noticed a brunet enter the room and take a seat next to her. He then complained about the heat. She quirked an eyebrow, She hadn’t noticed it was so hot, then again, she was barely paying attention to anything right now.
Will heard a voice coming from someone nearby, and sat up again to find out who it was. The voice must've come from the girl sitting beside him. She looked to be from Asia, and was quite pretty. He wondered if she was in his year and he just hadn't seen her in any of his classes, or could she be someone in the year above or below him? She did look to be around his age.
"It's far too warm in here for me." Will said. "Anywhere else in the school the usual amount of clothing I wear is fine, but not in here for some reason. Do you know what's different about this room to everywhere else?"
Will was quite used to wearing multiple layers of clothing since for some reason he had trouble keeping warm especially in winter. He thought it might be related to his powers, but he didn't know for sure so he just kept dressing according to how cold he felt the day was. He just couldn't work out why he felt so over-heated in this classroom compared to anywhere else in the school.
Suddenly the room temperature dropped to something a little more bearable, and Will immediately felt a little better. Had the teacher switched on the air-conditioner, or had it just decided to kick in and cool the room, or was it malfunctioning? He was tempted to go check, but at his old school you had to stay in your seat during detention. Granted you weren't supposed to talk to other people either, but pfft. No one ever really follows that rule anyway.

Trang leaned back on her chair, guessing that the guy was a detention newbie. He didn’t look like a bad kid, in fact, he was most likely new and an absolute good boy. Perhaps he had gotten here trying to do the right thing but had gone about it the wrong way? That seemed like a reasonable enough reason. She then heard him ask if there was anything different about this room. She smirked a little; he really was new to detention.
“This room...it nullifies powers...in other words, while in here....you’re just like a normal human being....” That was basically what it did anyway. There was a reason so many kids here hated and feared ending up in this room. No one really liked having their powers nullified. Especially since a few of the students tended to use them so much.
Trang chuckled lowly as she was asked why she was here. Man, something about being in detention put her in such a devious mood. Perhaps it was because it made her feel like a rebel, like she was kind of bad ass! She got up and sat on her desk, facing the guy as she told her story. “A guy was annoying me....kept trying to strike up a conversation....I ignored him...so he started to poke me....I still ignored him....so he got ON me and started to try to make out with me....that made me mad...understandably....so I pulled out my paddle....paddled his ass...shouted at him....and then made a portal to a desert and left him there. Serves him right....the bloody stupid idiotic pervert!”
Stupid guy, trying to make out with her like that and invading her personal space! He had deserved far worse than being just sent to a desert. A volcano would have been more fitting. Trang swung her legs a little, looking over at the teacher, who honestly looked like he didn’t care what the students did, as long as they stayed in detention, before shooting the boy’s question back at him.
“Why are you here?....oh....and what is your name?....I’m Trang....Tran Thi Trang.....” She offered out her hand for him to shake. May as well act civil towards him, he seemed like an ok kid.
Will listened to the girl as she explained what the room did. It nullifies powers? Was that why the room felt so warm at first...! His powers did affect his ability to regulate his body's temperature!
"It does? That explains everything! Whatever part of me that controls body temperature is actually working properly now that my powers have been shut off, and..." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a few seeds. "I can hold them in my bare hands without making them grow!"
Will put the seeds back into his pocket, and realised that he probably looked and sounded like a total dork at this moment but he didn't care. For the first time he was getting to experience what life could be like if he learned how to control his powers fully, and be able to choose when they activate and when they don't. It was like living the dream in a way. He didn't want to end up in detention all the time, but it was kind of nice to feel normal for a change.
He calmed himself down again and listened to the girl's story. She was put in here for smacking around a guy who didn't understand that no means no? What kind of idiot school was this?!
"You got put in here for defending yourself?! Did the guy get brought back to the school, or is he still out in the desert?" Will was shocked that this girl was here purely because she defended herself from a guy who forced himself on her. "And he needs to learn that no means no."
Will heard the girl introduce himself, and he shook her hand.
"I'm Will, and I got put in here for beating up a bully." Will said. "A senior was harassing a freshman first verbally, and then he started to use his powers on the kid. I went over there, and first I told him to stop, but he didn't. So I punched him. We had a bit of a fist-fight, and then I managed to get the upper hand. A teacher turned up when I slammed him against a wall, and the freshman had run away by then. He gets sent to the Infirmary, and I get sent here. It's bloody unfair."

Trang stared over at the other as he explained something about temperatures and seeds. Oh! His power must have something to do with making seeds grow and his body temperature. It wasn’t a bad power by the sounds of it; if he ever got hungry he could just grow some fruit or vegetables, right? That was pretty damn handy! As long as he had the right seeds, she supposed. After all, one can’t grow an orange tree from a flower seed. That just didn’t make sense.
“I see...then...your power is to grow seeds by touching them with your bare hands?....and it messes with your body temperature?...” She thought she had that right, or was pretty close. Trang wondered briefly whether the guy was a sidekick or a hero. You never knew with people these days. And the sorting seemed so random at times, though it generally went the more stronger and offensive the power, the more likely you were to be a hero.
She was personally happy that she was a sidekick; people expected less of you then. Plus you could always surprise them with your own strength. Silly heroes, so many of them thought they were better than the sidekicks. That guy had been a hero. Trang had sure put him in his place.
“I was made to bring him back before I was dumped in here...so he’s fine really. Just a few paddle bruises....” She frowned, remembering the slimy idiot. “I should have left him there....” Trang shivered a little, hugging herself and rubbing her arms. Stupid dickhead, kissing her like that. Thinking about it made her feel sick to her stomach. Best to just forget about it for now.
“Ah so Will is your name...suits you...you look like a Will...” Beating up a bully eh? Trang had been right when she’d thought he’d got in here for doing something right but going about it the wrong way. “So you were just trying to do some good then?...You really don’t deserve to be here...If you point out that bully later I’ll send him somewhere far far away....”
He really was a good kid, this Will guy. Good kids didn’t deserve to be in detention. Not when bullies were allowed to roam free!
Will listened to Trang's question about his powers. In truth, he didn't know a lot about the science behind it himself. Somehow he managed to meet whatever growth requirements a plant needed to grow, but it affected his energy levels and there was the whole "can't keep warm" thing that came with it.
"Yeah, it's plant manipulation. Aside from seeds I can also make living plants grow faster. Even with all the sun here I still have trouble keeping warm because it's like my body soaks up the heat and light, and all it does is give me more energy for my powers. I'm not quite sure how it all works, but even when it's hot as out there I'm still wearing more clothes than everyone else."
Will listened to Trang explaining that she had to bring that loser back to the school. Will wouldn't mind meeting him to explain how to treat a girl with respect. If she says no, she means it.
"If you see that jerk, point him out to me. If he doesn't learn to treat girls right he'll be doomed in later life. I could try to teach to him that if I can get him tied up and suspended from a tree. I'll end up back in here, but that's okay."
He listened to Trang's comments on what he'd done. He liked the idea of that bastard getting his just desserts by being sent through a portal to god knows where.
"I like the sound of that," Will said. "I don't know if the kid I fought was a hero or a sidekick, but either way he was a jerk."
Will hated bullies with a vengeance. He'd experienced bullying when he was younger, and he hated seeing younger students being bullied now. Maybe he should've used his powers on the bully rather than his fists. Oh well, never mind.
"Your powers sound really cool! Do you have any powers aside from creating portals? I know some people have more than one ability here, but I'm not one of them."

Trang listened again, nodding occasionally as the other spoke. She’d been right about his powers then, or as right as one could be with very little information. Her mind stored information, in case she found that it was needed later on in her life. Who knew, everything she learnt and complied in her brain may come in use later.
Trang also made a note that if she ever went in that blasted maze again that she should bring Will along, after all, it should let them use their powers to survive, yes? It only wanted to keep them in there so it just made their powers useless to escape, right? It made sense in her head so she decided that it was true. After all Trang was hardly ever wrong.
“I see...plant manipulation...a handy power indeed. If you’re wise enough...I guess you’ll never starve...” She suddenly blinked, having a thought. “The plants you grow....the fruit and vegetables that you can grow...are they very good?....Like, of a high quality?....” Trang smiled a little to herself, hoping that this would be true. If this was the case then she’d ask him to grow her some strawberries, the ones she’d been buying lately were either under ripe, over ripe or hadn’t been grown very well and none of them had the full and wonderful taste that her favorite food should have.
Trang chuckled, finding that she rather liked Will. He seemed to agree that jerk asses had it coming and that they should be punished. After all, why should she be nice to someone who was obviously an asshole?
“I will...in fact...we should teach both those jerk wads a lesson about respect!...Picking on the weak or leaching onto others and trying to force them into something...both are wrong! We should teach them that what they’ve done is wrong...of course we’ll end up with even more detentions...but eh...sometimes you gotta do what’s right...even when others say it is wrong.”
Trang crossed her legs and leaned forward as Will spoke again, this time asking her a question. “I do have a second power....but I have no control over it at all...it’s stupid really...you see...when I get too angry or upset I start to shake, as does everything around me....it’s called Vibration Emission. And I hate it...it causes a lot of damage....and I can’t stop it on my own. I need somebody else to calm me down...”
"Yeah, they look and taste better than what you get at a supermarket. And the plants I grow the normal way tend to be a little more resistant to disease." Will said. He could take a guess at where Trang was going with this, and wondered if he was right. He didn't mind being asked about growing stuff, but if it was drugs he'd usually say no. He could grow poppies with a clear conscience since it's the opium not the flower that's illegal. "Is there a particular fruit you like? I like strawberries, apples, mandarins and watermelon. Feijoas and kiwifruit are good too."
He listened to Trang's response over dealing to bullies, and liked her way of thinking. It seemed that she hated bullies too. Maybe they should team up! With his plant abilities and her portal abilities they should be able to get these bullies to stop bullying younger students! He wondered why he hadn't thought of such a thing before, but then again he hadn't met someone like Trang before today.
"Hey, why don't we team up and become a bully-fighting duo? I used to get bullied when I was a kid because of my powers. My parents lied and said I was allergic to grass to try to hide them, and of course, bullies go after anyone who's different. My best friend protected me from my bullies, and now I'd like to protect other people from theirs even if it puts me in here more often. I don't like seeing people being bullied at all by anyone."
He listened to Trang explaining her other power, and it sounded kind of like she could create an earthquake effect! That seemed kind of cool!
"So it's kind of like an earthquake with you at the centre? That sounds kind of cool, and would work really well as a diversion. Someday you might learn to control it, and then you'll be able to use it when you want to." Will looked down at his hands for a moment. "I wish mine was easier to control. I know most of what my powers can do, my limitations, and can be really precise! I just can't stop plants from growing when they come into contact with my skin. Maybe it's impossible."

Trang grinned a little, liking Will more and more by the second. Sounded like he made some high quality fruit and vegetables. He could make a career out of that if he wanted to, though it did seem like a waste of a super power. Maybe a side job then? She unfolded her legs, letting them drop over the side of the desk again, swinging them absentmindedly. “I see....then...perhaps...could you grow me some....strawberries? ...They are my favourite food....” Trang was pleasantly surprised that he listed them with his favourite fruits too. And as the first one too. Maybe they shared a favourite fruit, or even better, food?
She listened intensively as the other spoke, finding that yet again she liked this boy even MORE. Where had he been when she’d first come to this school? He would have made an excellent friend, hell, this bully-fighting duo; they could have already started it and have freed the school of most of its bullies by now! This school would be a much better place right now.
“...I really like the sound of that...of becoming a bully fighting duo I mean...the whole thing where you were bullied as a kid thing...sounds horrible....I hope your best friend punished them a lot.....mean, terrible people like that...who take pleasure out of hurting others....they need to be taught a lesson....that’s what being a hero means right?....Isn’t that what we’re all here for....to learn to use our powers and eventually become super heroes and sidekicks?....We’re just going to do what we’re being taught to do....to save others using our powers...like real heroes...”
Trang closed her eyes as a truly awesome vision came to mind, one of big, ugly brute picking on some people helpless student, then suddenly her and Will jumping out and calling the bully out, before Will grew these huge ass vines, capturing and encasing the horrible guy, before throwing him in a portal Trang has conveniently made just as he was doing that, leading to a deserted plane in the middle of nowhere. They then walked up to the kid, helping him over to the nurse’s office, with him graciously thanking him. Trang liked that vision, she liked it a lot.
Ah, he was talking about her secondary power and his own now. “It would be cool...if I had any idea how to control it...which one day...I would love to be able to do...it would be a good offensive power then....and you have a fine power....I mean...in a jungle...you’d be unstoppable!...Or anywhere with a lot of plants really....and I believe...one day...you’ll figure out how to make you’re powers stop...so things won’t grow when you touch them....I’m sure of it....”
So Trang liked strawberries too? Will wondered if he had any strawberry seeds back in his dorm room. He had a lot of different seeds but wasn't entirely sure if he had strawberry ones. It shouldn't be too hard to get some seeds if he didn't have any though.
"I can if I have the right seeds to grow them." Will said. "I've yet to meet a plant that won't grow for me so strawberries are fine."
He listened to Trang's response to his idea, and grinned. Their bully-fighting duo was gonna be awesome! And she was right! They were meant to learn to become heroes and save people.
"Let's go for it, then! A bully-fighting duo. And my best friend did get them good. They didn't mess with me after that, and he looked after me in other ways too, like going to get the ball if it bounced onto the grass, and staying inside with me when the teacher wouldn't let me go outside. He was a really great friend." Will smiled at the memory of his friend. "I showed him my powers and that the allergy was a lie, and he still wanted to be my friend. He knows I'm here to improve my skills, not for my health like everyone else has been told."
He paused for a moment before commenting on Trang's opinion of what heroes should do with their powers.
"Oh, agreed! What's the point in having these powers if we don't use them to protect other people?"
He listened to Trang's response about their powers. She seemed to believe that they'd be more controllable someday, and so did he.
"I hope we do learn how to control our powers in the way we want to. I'd love to be able to return to my parents and show them that my powers are controlled and they can stop trying to hide them."
Returning home and looking somewhat normal was a nice dream but he wasn't going to instantly assume that it'll happen someday.

Trang smiled a little at that. He’d grow her strawberries! Delicious, scrumptious, wonderfully wonderful strawberries! They were the one food that Trang prefer to taste amazing, to be amazing, when she ate them. The rest could taste like crap for all she cared; only her favourite food had to taste nice.
“...Thanks...If you want I could get the seeds for you...I’m sure I could find some....” Finding strawberry seeds should be easy, yes? Just visit a plant store and buy some there, right? It sounded simple enough to her. And it would be quick and easy to do. She could be the little red fruits in no time.
“Definitely....A bully-fighting duo we shall be....starting from....now! Maybe we should think of a cool sounding name for our duo....” Trang found the idea of a cool name for their now started bully smashing duo to be, well, cool. A name that would be passed around the school, letting the bullies know that there was two people out there, two students, who weren’t going to stand for their brutish ways. A pair of sidekicks who were ready and willing to kick their asses to defend the weak. Like true heroes.
She listened with interest when Will spoke of his best friend. He sounded like a great guy, someone who was willing to accept him for who he was and would defend him and stick by his side forever. A true friend, that’s what he seemed like. Trang briefly wondered if Mathias would do all that for her, after all, he was her best friend. Trang supposed he would, he was the type of guy who was very loyal and protective of his friends.
“...I’m sure we will...I hope we will...I do not want to live the rest of my life not being able to control my vibration emission....that thing is a horrible destructive disaster right now....”
"Considering how isolated the school is I'm not sure how easy it'd be to get seeds." Will figured every so often he'd have to make stuff go to seed to replenish his supplies unless it was possible to get seeds by mail-order or online... he'd have to figure it out. "Unless you can make portals to the mainland..."
There was probably some kind of drawback to Trang's portal making abilities, but she'd be able to travel to places he can't with her powers. He heard Trang's suggestion about figuring out a cool name for their duo. Hmm. It had to be something simple so people could remember it, but mysterious enough to keep their identities somewhat secret since they'd eventually be targeted by the bullies they'd fight. He heard Trang mention something more about definitely learning to control their powers fully one day as he thought about what they could call themselves, and he nodded in agreement before speaking.
"We do need a name for our duo. Something people will recognise and remember. Maybe something related to our powers? Hmm. How about... what the hell?!"
He heard a loud noise from outside the detention hall, and grabbed his gloves off the desk before he got up. Putting on his gloves as he went, he ran to the door of the detention hall. When he saw the reason for the commotion he was stunned. What a place to start a fight, people! Two students were brawling outside the detention hall, and were using their powers. Will stepped out of the detention hall and into the hallway, and was shocked at the sudden drop in room temperature due to his powers kicking in again. He wasn't sure whether to run back into the warm detention room for the rest of his clothes or focus on the fight at hand. He quickly chose the latter, and addressed the two fighters as he grabbed a couple of vine seeds out of his pocket just in case.

“I can make portals to just about anywhere....They’re not terribly accurate if I haven’t been there before but it doesn’t hurt to try...unless I end up on cliff edges or the edges of tall buildings...” Trang shivered when she remembered things like that happening. It was never a pleasant experience and she’d yet to get used to stepping out into such dangerous places. She really did need to work on her accuracy...
“How about wh-“ She was cut off when she heard a loud noise coming from outside the detention hall, causing her to cringe. Great, was there now some kind of fight going on outside? Perhaps their bully busting duo would have to begin work a lot sooner than what Trang had first thought. Damn it, why were so many students intent on causing others pain?
She sighed as she dropped down from the desk, checking to see if the teacher who was meant to be watching them was still doing so. Like usual it seemed he had fallen asleep, completely dead to the world around him. How typical of him. Though it just made it all that much easier for Trang to leave the hall unnoticed, quickly grabbing the remainder of Will’s clothes before she left, not wanting her new partner to freeze or anything.
Trang found him out in the halls, staring at a couple of stupid guys fighting with their powers. Idiots. Absolute idiots. There were other students in this area, what if they injured them? It was obvious these morons weren’t thinking straight, or thinking at all, perhaps. She rubbed her temples as she walked up to Will’s side, staring at the guys fighting with her best look of irritation. Hopefully when alerted to what they were doing wrong they would cut it out.
"What's it to you?" One of the students said as he aimed an energy blast at his opponent. He had blond hair, and looked to be strong. "This guy's a noisy dickhead!"
"Is being a noisy dickhead enough of a reason to start a fight?" Will said, and the other boy (aka the "Noisy Dickhead") spoke up. This boy had short reddish-brown hair, and looked like he'd be tall if he was standing up.
"That bastard stole my glasses!" He said as he punched the blond kid in the stomach while clinging to him with his free hand. "I'm not letting him go until he returns them!"
"I keep telling him I don't have his glasses, but he won't listen!" The first student said. "And he's a noisy dickhead because his powers are sound!"
Will watched the two keep fighting, and wondered if the "Noisy Dickhead's" glasses might be lying around somewhere where he can't see them. He noticed Trang appear next to him out of the corner of his eye, and grinned when he saw she had the rest of his clothes. She also looked as irritated at the sight of the fight as he felt.
"Thanks for bringing the rest of my clothes, Trang!" Will said. "Come on, guys. Surely there must be a way to work this out. If you have the other guy's glasses return them and this fight should be over!"
How to solve this was so logical. Why were these two not getting it right? Were they both so stubborn that they couldn't solve this fight in a more gentle fashion?
"GIVE THEM BACK!" The red-head roared at the other one, and the blond's hair seemed to blow backwards for a moment before falling back the way it was.
"That bloody hurt, you dickhead!" The blond one said, and fired another energy blast at the red-head. Will sighed at this. It looked like he and Trang might have to settle this one rather than waiting for those two to do it. They could be there fighting all day before they finally stop!
[[OOC: The blond kid in the fight is a random NPC, and the red-head is my OC. ^^]]
