SPECIAL ABILITY(s)
Magnetism manipulation. Ability to control and/or generate magnetic fields.
Magnetic Hovering. Mathias can “glide along the planet’s natural magnetic lines of force” meaning that Mathias’ powers would generally help him fly… but Mathias actually detests having his feet off of the ground quite a bit. So he doesn’t give himself a chance to really develop this particular part of his powers. Mathias has a hard time controlling where he hovers to, and instead of gliding anywhere, he more or less just hovers a few feet off of the ground. He can also hover metal objects. As long as they are magnetic items, and he can shoot them as well. Hovering metallic objects requires almost no effort on his part.
Magnetic Pulse: Mathias can make some pretty awesome magnetic blasts. This requires A LOT of concentration on his part though. The deeper his focus is, the more powerful his blasts are, and it may sound strange, but Mathias is actually really good at this. When he is in “the zone,” nothing can break his concentration. But since Mathias prefers to rely on his own physical strength, doing these powerful blasts can give him intense headaches. In fact his headaches can be so dizzying sometimes that it causes him to faint. It has gotten even worse after an incident with a certain freshman girl.
Finally, when he is flustered or angry, there is the slight chance of his magnetic fields going wacky and destroying electronics and causing TVs to go all static-y. This is something that really freaks him out about his power, and one of the reasons he doesn’t know that he would be able to take apart electronics very easily, and one of the other reasons, that he doesn’t really try developing his power.
HOW DID THEY FIGURE OUT?
Mathias Andersen had never been the best behaved of students. It was no secret to the others around the school that he wanted some kind of attention, even if it wasn’t really good attention. However, “discovering that he had powers” never actually happened. He in fact was aware that he had some kind of strange ability for as long as he could remember.
The thing was, was that he just really wasn’t all that interested in it. Having strange powers was not going to fix his lousy grade school grades, get him a dad or stop him from doing what he wanted to. Just the fact that every once in a great while when he got really mad machines would fritz out, or when he got excited he would float a few inches off of the ground. He didn’t think it was really a huge deal, yeah it was cool, but as a young boy there was other things he wanted.
That was, until the day it started to become a problem.
You see, Mathias may have been a huge tough kid, but when he was alone, that façade was completely pushed away. When he was about ten years old his mother took him on a trip to Tivoli Gardens. From there, the young boy took it upon himself to wander off and get lost.
The young boy spent hours wandering around in an attempt to find his mother, his panic continuing to grow. It grew even more as the sky began to grow dark and people started to leave the park as it was closing.
But instead of asking somebody or going to the front of the park like his mother had told him if they got separated so that she could find him, Mathias exited the park, making a direct run towards the road, where his terror only escalated to a point that cars began to float in midair. The vehicles span around the air above his head, and colliding in midair with one another, setting off alarms, and scaring young children.
It didn’t take his mother very long to find him after that.
She called out to her panicky child, only for him to glance up in surprise, fall from the sky, which he wasn’t aware he had been in, and in short, cause the power in the entire park to flicker out.
After that incident, the young Dane seemed to have more problems than ever before keeping his powers from going haywire. He broke televisions, computers, among other things, and a few times when he got excited he would float up so high that he ended up smacking into the ceiling or getting stuck in trees. (It was a miracle he didn’t float away completely.)
His mother continued to look for solutions, eventually finding information about a special school for kids with super powers. Which as soon as he was old enough, she packed all of his bags and sent him on his way, and that is the end of Mathias’ lovely power story.

`EVEN WHILE WE SLEEP. WE WILL FIND YOU,
Beer- Seen as a social thing, Mathias greatly enjoys going to bars and drinking with his friends. He does not do it to just “get wasted” but rather to relax and have a good time.
Baking- Because what's better than making yummy treats for everyone to enjoy? Not much.
Kids- He has a huge weakness for children. Their simplistic view of the world is very refreshing and he finds he doesn't have to try so hard to make them happy.
Bikes- He can drive, but he much prefers his bike, and it's almost embarrassing how much he rides it.
Working Out- Yes. He works out and enjoys doing it. Showing off his body- with and without clothes-- is a great joy of his.
Comfort- Atmosphere is everything to this Dane. He enjoys feeling warm and safe, and he goes through candles quicker than he'd ever let on.
People- Mathias' love for people is almost juvenile in nature. He likes treating most people like family and would give the shirt off his back if he could. His trusting nature could easily be misconstrued as naive, but he knows full good and well just how awful people can be. He just chooses to overlook it.
Pork- Quite possibly his favorite food. End of story.
Smiling- Mathias has a wonderful grin, and isn't afraid to show it off when he is feeling good about something.
Hugs/Cuddling- For a man of Germanic background, Mathias is quite touchy-feely. He completely lacks an idea of what personal space is, will invade a person's bubble without so much as a second thought.
Sandwiches- Pork being his favorite food was a bit of a lie. He loves smørrebrød just as much, and give him both, he'll be in heaven.
CHARACTER NAME DISLIKES
Negative Qualities- He prefers to ignore the ones he possesses. He knows sometimes he can be a bit overbearing and loud (among other things), but he chooses not to acknowledge it.
Technology- It's not so much that he hates it, but that he can't use it. He doesn't like to rely on it either.
Corruption- Whether it happens in the government or it's someone close to him, a person who lies and cheats is not the person for him.
Skiing- Mathias is absolutely clumsy on skiis, snowboards, and pretty much anything of the sort. It's quite embarrassing, really.
Being alone- He'd much rather be surrounded by a group of friends than all by himself!
Clumsiness- Mathias is a klutz. He isn't terrible at dancing, but he does bump into and knock things over more than he'll own up to. He doesn't like this, but he knows it's his fault for being so reckless.
Betrayal- No one in their right state of mind likes being betrayed. Mathias absolutely abhors it. He really tries to do his best all the time, however, there are many times when it just doesn’t pay off and people leave him behind.
People taller than him- This is really something tiny that bothers him. Being quite the tall dude himself, when other people are taller than him, it is frustrating.
Dishonesty- Dishonesty isn’t the way to go, ever. Mathias doesn’t like to lose his trust in people, and although it takes a lot for that to happen, lying to his face is one of the ways it'll happen the quickest.
Chronic complaining- Mathias is supposed to be open-minded but something just bugs him about people who can’t find happiness, especially when others are trying really hard to make it for them.
His Name- He doesn't hate it, but he just prefers being called Mathias, which is his middle name.
FEARS
Heights- Heights are quite possibly one of Mathias’ biggest fears. But you didn’t hear that from me. He hates airplane rides, looking over the edge of fjords, tall roller coasters, mountains, huge waterfalls, tall buildings, all of it. He doesn’t know how exactly this fear developed, but it's been around for as long as he can remember. He doesn't really talk about this fear to people, but when confronted with it, he tends to tighten up quite a bit, and become extremely jumpy. It’s probably not a secret to anyone at this point.
Losing his family and friends- Mathias loves his friends, and he loves his family. Mathias’ stubborn streak has a hard time accepting death, and even worse, sometimes he'll go into denial over it. When he falls for someone, he falls for them hard, and losing them is something he fears having to deal with, even if he has before.
Not being good enough- Mathias wants to be everyone's best big brother. Even though he knows that he isn’t the best and that not that many people see him as an older brother. He tries to live up to the expectations that a role model should have, and sometimes he gets the thought in his head that he isn’t good enough or that all of his efforts have been in vain. His worries that this is the truth has more or less developed into a full-fledged fear over time.
QUIRKS
Magic Spot- Mathias isn't ticklish. Except for one spot. He won't tell anyone where that spot is either. But once you find it, it's not that hard to get him giggle and curl up like a little girl. (Spoiler alert: it's his neck.) He doesn't really like being tickled either, just so you know. So you.... probably.... shouldn't........ do it.
Allergies- He is quite allergic to cats. He has no idea where this allergy came from, as no one else in family possesses this allergy but him. When he is around cats his nose becomes extremely runny and his eyes will start watering… along with sneezing like crazy. Oddly enough though, he really likes cats and his allergies wouldn’t stop him from getting one if he really wanted to. He also has allergies to dust and pollen, which is pretty embarrassing from his viewpoint.
Compliments- He tends to not believe people when they compliment him. It’s not his fault... but he is just so accustomed to being teased and picked on that when people say nice things to him, he will usually end up either pushing it to the side like nothing, or questioning it highly. He can’t help it, he gets put down a quite a bit. It’s really not that hard to make him sob in happiness. It really isn’t.
Comfort- When Mathias is upset he'll often blindly reach for someone's hand. He usually ends up lightly rubbing their fingers with his thumb and getting a rather guilty look on his face. If you don't recognize this then you'll probably have a hard time telling when the Dane is upset because he isn't really good at showing it any other way than that.
Fair Skin- Mathias sunburns very easily. However, when he does get these burns, not only does he turn into a lobster, but the already numerous freckles covering his back, shoulders and face turn even brighter and more plentiful.
Whistling- Humming and whistling while he walks. Half the time he doesn't even know what he is whistling or why he is whistling it, but he does it anyway. It is very soothing to him and gives him an upbeat aura. Some others aren't really so fond of this whistling however and they find it to be pestering. He doesn't care what they think.
Familiar- Mathias has a very familiar speech pattern. The Danish language is a very familiar language, lacking most kinds of formalities and eloquence to it. This lack of fanciness in his native tongue has, in a sense affected his English. He isn't the type to say "please" a whole bunch, and if he knows a persons first name you can bet he will be using that rather than their last names. He speaks to everyone in a buddy-buddy manner, even his elders, which can sometimes get him into trouble if they aren't Danish, but regardless, it is how it is, and that's the end of that.
OVERALL PERSONALITY
Mathias Andersen is a hard individual to understand. He is loud, energetic, and easy-going. He has a large heart and isn't afraid to make an observation and say what's on his mind. He wears a rather constant grin, even during the times when he is feeling his worst. It is this constant expression to the point of extreme simplicity that makes people rather wary of him in a short amount of time.
Caring- Mathias is an unusually caring individual. He wants nothing more than to see everyone around him smiling and as happy as he is. He enjoys helping people, and perhaps this is the reason why he finds himself enjoying the company of children.
Arrogance- There are times when his willingness to help seems to evolve into arrogance. And saying that Mathias doesn't possess a level of it would be mistake. Mathias is proud of what he can do, and he is just as proud of his family. He will brag quite passionately about his friends, his mother, and at times, his own baking and strength.
Praise- Being a boisterous individual, he takes great enjoyment in praising other's accomplishments. When he sees that someone excels at something, he isn't too proud to shower them in praises and congratulations.
Familiar- He acts familiar towards other people, and many times people mistake that for rudeness. He only calls people by their last name if they tell him to, and the Dane finds it a necessity to know a person's name the first time they meet. He also won't hesitate to ask someone a personal question.
His home language completely lacks a word that means "please" and it isn't rare for him to miss the word in the English language. It's not his fault, but often it will give the Dane the appearance of being rude.
Openminded- One of the Dane's most redeeming features is his open-mindedness. Mathias doesn't care how old a person is, how angry they are, how kind they are, or what kind of past they had. He enjoys being around the many different kinds of people there are, and he is glad that the world was blessed with such a huge variety of them. Despite this, he can still be offensive unintentionally.
Clueless- Moving back to the clueless air, Mathias isn't exactly the brightest cookie in the box. Although he isn't a complete imbecile, at times he annoys others when he fails to understand something. This clueless air of his is also a bit of an act at times, as he tends to ignore any negative emotions hurled towards him. When insults are tossed at him, he attempts to put up a wall to ignore them, even when they hurt him.
Loud mouth- Mathias has always had a rather large mouth, as well as tendencies to speak without thinking. This can often get him into trouble, and though he never means some of the more wild things he says, it can be hard to stop.
Imaginative- Mathias’ imagination is very active. He isn't the type to shy away from telling a crazy stories from his experiences and adding fun and crazy elements to them. This imagination also goes hand-in-hand with his drawing artwork, even though he isn't that good.
Clingy- One of Mathias' worst traits is that he cannot bear to let go of anything. Especially when it comes to people. Mathias can be clingy to the point where a person finds themselves wanting to get away rather than stay near him. He tends to smother those who are close to him with the best of intentions, but it isn't rare for these intentions to get him into trouble. This is quite possibly the Dane's biggest weakness, and he even hates this about himself, but he can't help it. It has gotten better with time, but it still needs healing.
Giving- Those who are close to the Dane know he is a giving individual. He enjoys baking food for people and would gladly share his lunch to those who do not have their own. He will do anything it takes to make someone who is down crack a smile, and isn't against giving them a good-natured hug or a pat on the back. (Mathias is famous for his bear hugs.) He loves to make people happy, and sometimes he finds that if the people around aren't happy, well then, he isn't happy himself.
Rash- Mathias is always up for an adventure. This same side of him is the part that gets excited over just being around his friends. This is the fun, bouncy side of him that one will find talking excitedly about what he loves. His magnetic personality also draws people in if they are unused to how he is. Some find this aspect of the Dane rather obnoxious, but it is also part of the reason so many people love him.
Secretive- Mathias can be rather secretive at times. This isn’t anything he means, but Mathias just doesn’t like talking about himself. He’d much rather talk about other people or make up crazy stories. However, if you do ask about Mathias’ life he’ll be willing to tell, but that is only if you ask, and usually what he does tell is quite vague. He figures that when he is ready to tell, he’ll tell, or he’ll end up blurting it out at some point anyway. Also, one should never expect Mathias to tell you if he is scared or hurt or even upset, because he doesn’t enjoy looking weak.
Prankster- By his nature, Mathias is quite playful. He enjoys playing pranks, as much as the next guy, and even more so, he loves lame jokes. He likes to take and send people out on ridiculous adventures. He has a slight habit of performing stupid magic tricks on people and failing, only to shrug it off and try again. This playful nature makes it easy for the Dane to laugh at himself, as well as at others.
Bully- He doesn’t mean this bullying, but sometimes he can’t help it. It can be hard for him to realize the difference between playing rough, and playing too rough which can lead to trouble on his end. It isn’t rare for him to toss someone high into the air against their will, or spin them around until they are dizzy. Most of the time he doesn't realize how strong he is, and sometimes this can leave a negative impact on some of his friends.
Patient- Mathias does know when he has made a mistake, always hopes for the best. If he has accidentally hurt someone, and he is aware of this, he will apologize and make it up to them. He always looks and wants the best, and because of this, he is honest, and good natured. He wants to believe what people tell him, and is never suspicious of them without good reason. He is quite patient with people who don’t deserve his patience, (Although he can be impatient in other areas.) and he always attempts to understand their motives.
Gullible- It is because of this good-nature and desire to understand, that Mathias can be quite gullible. It isn’t hard at all to trick him into believing a total lie, or even catch his attention by telling some kind of crazy story. He isn't aware most of the time of how gullible he can be.
Family- He is without a doubt the "cool" uncle or cool older type. He treats almost every person around him with the same familiarity someone would treat a person a close family member. He likes to tell people that it is a Danish thing, but it is just a part of who he is. In fact, it isn't rare for him to fight for the little guys or give them lectures on how to defend themselves. Yes, this does make it hard for him to fall in love, and he knows this, but he knows he'll find someone someday.
Loud- If I haven't mentioned it already, Mathias is loud. Loud and often times, quote obnoxious. His voice and his stories can be both inviting and at the same time they can be annoying. When Mathias is excited, his volume only grows, whether you are inside and outside.
Social- One of the most notable features of the Dane's personality however, is his lack of fear for people. No matter who they are, or how much they have hurt or threatened him, Mathias won't be afraid of them. He has many other fears, but the fear of a specific person doesn't exist within Mathias. No he isn't shy. He isn't afraid to look someone in their eyes and tell them that they are wrong, or that he likes them. This is how Mathias gets along with so many different kinds of people.
In Short- Mathias Andersen is a tall, fun-loving Dane who can at times be overbearing. But he is always a loyal friend, and is one of the most fun people you could ever be around.
`ACTING ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR, TURN YOUR BACK ON MOTHER NATURE!

Mathias has spent the entire damn day searching the school far and wide for a person—any person, that would be the perfect candidate to join his beloved swimming team. But no matter who he asked, passed by or tried to recruit, there was a stunning lack of interest in the team. These younger students seemed to lack the drive it took to be a part of the school sports programs. Not that Mathias could really say anything for himself.
He could remember back in his freshman year, he wasn’t really that interested either. He was still quite hung up in his, ‘Too cool for anything’ phase, in which he wanted people to see him as this super cool, well-adjusted individual when in reality he was more or less a young boy with no friends who lived alone with his mother.
But this one boy, who was a senior during the time he was a freshman, moved up to him while he was having lunch with his first friend at the school, and pretty much begged him to be on the swimming team. In fact, thinking back on it now, Mathias wasn’t really sure why he agreed… But in the long run of things, he did. And somehow he also ended up as the captain in his senior year. Strange how this stuff happened.
But either way. He didn’t choose to be captain. The previous captain dropped the already dying team, which left Mathias, one of two seniors left, in charge. Now it was up to him to save the day…
But man… this was just going terribly!!
He just wanted to go hang out with his friends!! That was what high school was about after all! Fun, friends and—Mathias blinked. Was that…? He stopped and took a peek through the window that overlooked the pool. That was definitely a splashing sound he heard!!
He smiled to himself even brighter when he realized that said person in the pool was someone he hadn’t ever seen before.
Well… he had seen her before… but she definitely wasn’t a member of the swim team. He watched her swim back and forth, back and forth, back and forth for a number of times, before she sat on the edge of the pool and began to ring out her hair.
To be honest, Mathias was already picturing her on the team as he burst through the door and into the pool room. He ran up beside her and squatted, lightly tapping her shoulder.
“Hello there!! I’m Mathias, and you probably already know me, but I run the swimming team here, and I was watching you from that door over there…and…” He tapped his chin a moment, thinking of what to say to her next, “And I noticed you were a really good swimmer! Did you learn that on your own? Or is your power to be a really amazing swimmer?”
He crossed his arms before deciding to remove his shoes and let his feet dangle in the cool water.
“Sorry to spring this on you so suddenly… but we really need members… or else… well.. the team might be broken up! Then what would this lovely pool be used for!?”
He shook his head.
“By the way, what is your name? I’ve seen you around with Lili before… and I think we’ve spoken before… but… Maybe my memory is a little shoddy."
