((Oh so creatively titled. <3))
Sean Murphy just wanted a normal day. Or, as normal as it could be, given the school he was currently returning to from an afternoon out. Just a normal, quiet day, where nothing was any more out of the ordinary than usual.
Unfortunately, the unwanted companion that was now following him made that near-impossible for him.
He glanced back with uneasy ice-blue eyes at the fairly large dog that was following him. Judging from its behavior, it didn't seem all that threatening. But memories of vicious growls and teeth and claws, and the knowledge that one should never judge by appearance, kept the Irishman from trusting the beast.
He tried his best to ignore it in the hope that it would eventually lose interest, but it seemed that every time he looked back, it was still there, following in his steps not more than ten meters away. It was enough to make him uncomfortable, but he tried not to hurry his steps any more than a brisk walk. Running would make things worse, he reasoned with himself, even as he itched to get away from the thing. The school shouldn't be that far. All he had to do was just ignore it long enough to safely get inside, and then he would probably never see the dog again.
Or, so he hoped, at least. The fact that it seemed to be getting closer did nothing to calm his nerves.
He walked a bit faster.
Just get to the school, just get to the school, it's not going to hurt you, it's not going to hurt you, he thought to himself, a sort of mantra that he kept going through. Yes, the dog was getting closer, and yes, it looked quite interested in him. But it would go away soon enough. And then he would be at school again, and he would be safe. No growling, no bites, no barking--
The dog barked, loudly, less than three meters away, and before he realized what he was doing, Sean was racing toward the school in a panic-filled sprint. Realizing he wasn't going to make it inside (the dog was most surely chasing after him), he grabbed onto the first person he came across. He had no idea who it was, but nevertheless, he pulled them between him and the direction he'd just ran from, using them as a shield between him and the dog.
He trembled.
