As Roderich finished placing all his clothes neatly in the dresser he paused as Mei addressed him. "U-uuhh.... i-its nothing." he managed to choke out. Its not like he didnt want too... well he didnt. She was a girl, and might get creeped out. His powers werent the coolest, and it was hard to explain. And it was obviously very weird and gross. He shook his head and stood up to put some of his other clothes in the closet.
He secretly wished that this was an all boys dorm, so thinks wouldnt be so akward. He wasnt used to being around girls, and pretty ones at that. But he decided to make sure none of the boys took advantage of the young lady.
Mei huffed. She would have crossed her arms if she hadn't been holding anything.
Powers were special abilities. It slightly irritated her to think that anyone could think that their powers were just nothing.
"I'm sure it's not nothing," she began. "There's a certain degree of usefulness to every power out there. I'm sure that yours is more amazing than you think it is."
Back then, she used to think that all she could do with her powers was change hair and eye colors. She used to think that it wasn't all that special.
She walked towards the door. "I think I'd really like to know what your powers are." She looked at the ground. "Don't you think it'd be a good idea to know what each others' powers are? To be sure that we all don't clash with each other?" And she was terribly curious. So curious that she was beginning to wonder how she could make him tell her what his powers were.
But that wouldn't be very nice of her, would it?
"Still. They're your powers." She shifted the tray so as to free her left hand. She twisted open the knob. "I'll make tea then, okay?" She flashed them a smile and walked out of the room.
These mood swings were going to get to her someday.
"N-no really, its nothing." He spoke dryly, as if all the saliva was sucked out of his mouth. This made him nervous, the pestering, and his lips gave a twitch. "Really..." He said softly.
He gave an inward sigh as she talked about powers. Unfortunately for him, they gave him alot of pain and there were times were he so desired them gone. The young girl was pretty, and seemingly innocent, and Roderich wondered what she would actually do if he told her. Everything.
"Tea sounds lovely" He said again softly, with a small smile. "What kind again?" Roderich wondered, as he wasn't quite paying attention before, my wasn't that embarrassing.
He took something out of his suitcase and put it in his pocket and then slowly followed after her. Hoping she wouldn't ask him anything too personal. "I... Personally like coffee better... I uh, suppose. But tea is highly calming." He gave a small smile to the back of her. "I mean if I had the money... " He coughed. "D-do you drink tea often? Im guessing since your, well... Uh.." He paused not trying to sound rude. "Oh, excuse me. I d-dont mean.. you.. I, well. Ah I apologize. Did you need any help?"
Roderich was most probably a good person, thought Mei. He just needed a lot more self-confidence; he needed to believe more in his powers.
She placed the tray atop the counter that separated the kitchen from the -- oh, she wasn't sure what they called this -- entertainment room. She looked around the kitchen. It was quite nice, a little bit smaller than the one they had at home, but it was good enough. Good enough meaning that she could probably make tea and dim sum in peace.
"It's wulong," she answered. "The best that there is!" She laughed. There wasn't a soul in the world who wouldn't like wulong made from leaves in her country.
When she heard Roderich stumble with his words, she had this feeling that perhaps, just perhaps, she had gone too far. She hadn't meant to do that, really! What she'd wanted was to make him feel good about himself, to let him know that, well, no matter what his power was they'd still like him even though they'd all only met for a few minutes ago. "Stupid," she muttered to herself.
"My what?" she asked. "And I think I've got everything covered here, no need to help at all."
Wow. He thought, Mei sure was a strong woman. He blushed at his audacity to just say something so awkward to her. He wasnt like her in the least bit. He should have contained his words better, and should have acted more formal. He bit his tongue, nodding at the choice of tea.
"Nothing, nothing at all!" The aristocrat almost grinned at her, but kept his face straight. "Ah, well... if you need any..." He paused. "I can take the leftover cake I made? I have some slices leftover I put in the fridge for the both of us and the young boy back there." He said, looking back to see no one.
The room was relatively small, and somehow Roderich managed to make himself feel claustrophobic in this space. He loved being alone and with little to no people, so this space made everything feel soo... crowded. He hated that feeling, but shook it off, being around someone was refreshing actually. And what would they say about his cake?
He took the pieces out of the fridge and placed them on some old worn out plates, the only ones he could find inside the cubbord. "My, It seems I should buy us something more... New."

"Cake does sound nice." She hoped that she didn't sound too excited about the cake. What if her roommates took her for some glutton? … Maybe they already had what with the sheer amount of snacks she'd gotten out of her bag. "What kind of cake is it?" Something extra sweet would be nice. Just the thing she needed to stop bullying her roommates into telling them things they didn't want to.
Or it was more like just the thing she needed to stop feeling guilty over nothing.
She filled the kettle with water, then placed it over the stove. She turned the stove to its lowest setting. Best to take these things slowly. Good tea was always worth the wait.
She looked at the plates Roderich had gotten out and chuckled at them. "Don't bother. I've got a whole set with me." Her family had insisted on it! It had nothing to do with her wanting to bring a chunk of home with her, nothing at all. She looked at Roderich. "Can you keep an eye on the kettle while I get it? I might," she paused, "take a little while finding them."
More than a while, even, what with the way she'd haphazardly thrown in her things inside her bag after the key debacle.
"Chocolate, simple since I had barely anything to work with at mein Aunts." He simply said, putting his finger into the icing or his cake. He was a glutton, most definitely. He wouldnt think any less of her if she ate like he did. All the time, if he could, get his hands on some sort of sweet he would be in heaven. Thankfully for himself he never seemed to gain any weight, and as unfortunate as it may seem, he would quit sweets if that happened. Sure he found everyone to be beautiful regardless of weight, but he would think down on himself if it ever came upon him.
"Oh, of course..." He paused looking over to the ominous looking kettle. Thankfully he could heal if he got himself burnt. He didnt have to touch the thing, but he was wary just in case. Having many times hurt himself doing menial tasks like, making coffee or baking.
He watched as the girl left, pursing his lips and then taking a bite out if his cake. After a while the kettle went spewing off, making Roderich jump and scramble to get it. Of course it ended with him fumbling around in distress and burning himself slightly.
Within seconds however, the burn faded and his skin on the side of his hand remained red. "Verdammit..." he muttered under his breath as he turned off the stove. Now he had another one to worry about, thankfully his scar cream he had ordered came in not but two days ago.
Well, finding the plates and the other dinnerware hadn't been as hard as she'd thought. She felt rather accomplished as she went back inside the kitchen. This was a feeling of accomplishment that was rather short-lived because when she arrived at the kitchen, she saw Roderich stick his hand too close to the kettle than any of them would've liked.
She quickly put the dinnerware on the table and grabbing Roderich's hand to inspect the burn.
Only to find out that there was no indication that he'd been burnt. No red, bumpy patch of skin. She blinked and then squinted her eyes at his hand. But she was sure that he'd at least have reddened skin after the kettle incident.
She gave him back his hand and then looked at him straight in the eyes. "This is your power, isn't it?" Well, there was now a chance that he wasn't the mind reader she initially thought; she felt a little relieved about that to be honest.
But then she couldn't understand why he hated his power. If she was right, he was probably, well, one of those heat resistant power users. That wasn't terribly bad to have. It was pretty neat and could come in handy in certain occasions.
Though just in case she was wrong and he wasn't heat resistant, she asked, "But you're still okay, right?" She'd feel terrible if she found out he got hurt just because she left to find plates.
Roderich blinked in surprise as Mei darted over to inspect his hand. He immediately froze and straitened up. His hand shook just a tad and he blinked several times as she looked closer. He suddenly felt hideous, disgusting even.
And actually, Roderich indeed had a small mark were the burn had been. It was a small red blotch, not that bright, but it was entirely visible. He was surprised the girl did not notice it, and sighed just slightly. Having relieved himself from any embarrassment. Although he knew he wasnt entirely off the hook, if he were to not give her any more information.
"I...Well, j-ja, sort of..." He said softly, hesitantly looking into her eyes. The corner of his lip twitched to make what looked like a weak smile. He wasnt going to have to explain himself was he? He would, but the girl wasnt going to listen to him drawl out his life story now was she? Well that was one of the only reasons, he thought, he could explain.
Maybe he would show her? Maybe.
Roderich then twirled around, trying to avoid the subject completely. "Yes yes" He nodded going to grab the two cake slices. "E-eh, cake?"
Mei crossed her arms in front of her chest and stared at his back; the only spot she could stare at since his back was facing her. "Sort of," he'd said. So he did have more than one power! She watched him prepare the cake for them. She knew that he was close to crack his secret. She was this close to finding out what his (other) power was!
She really couldn't help it. She wanted to give him his privacy -- all of them needed it -- but she was just too curious. She was, quite possibly, the worst roommate anyone could ever have.
"Isn't it for the best if we all know your powers now? After all, we'll all be living in the same room for the whole year." She took one of the two plates with cake on it. "Come now, it's not like we'll hate you because of your powers." They all knew what it felt like to be different. No use trying to ostracize someone who was odd like them.
Chocolate cake, wasn't it? And Roderich made it as well. To be honest, he didn't look like the sort who baked, but to each their own! "This looks lovely." She smiled a little as she looked at the cake. It really was a good thing she had a roommate who could bake cakes (for her).
"Ah, well... I-Its not going... To get in the way.... or... anything." He said slowly, moving to place the pieces of chocolate cake on the small table they had in the kitchen, with a frown. Were they trying to skimp on everything here? This was utterly ridiculous, he was going to buy some better things for this dorm, with his savings. He had a bit he could spend.... Or so he thought. He never liked spending money, but if he were to show off then he just might have a bit.
He glanced back at her for only a moment as he carefully set things out for them. "I, well...." He turned back around, same hesitant smile on his face as he retrieved the cutlery from the drawer and went back to the table to set them down for her. "You might not hate me.." Saying softly, thinking more like you will find me utterly disgusting. Hopefully she couldn't read thoughts...
"Hmm, yes" He turned to her seat and pulled it out for her, so she could sit. He loved to bake, and would be delighted to bake her as many sweets as she wanted. Maybe even some he had never even heard of before. It was always good to try new things. "Is your tea ready?" He asked hoping to steer her in another conversation. "I'm quite excited to taste it." Seeing as how he didnt much drink tea, and the fancy name made him think it was going to taste different than his usual earl grey.
