Lukas sighed as he turned yet another page of his textbook. In a few days was a big test and while he had already read through his notes thoroughly, the boy saw no reason why he shouldn’t read through the required chapters once more. Besides, it’s not he had much else to do. The day was overcasted, but still fairly pleasant, though not too hot that the Norwegian would be forced indoors. His swept over the words, glancing at the diagrams, but he couldn’t help but notice the difference in bird song’s above his head, or how the wind was shifting his hair and that occasionally he could pinpoint the rustling within the foliage of a critter scurrying about. Currently Lukas was hunkered away in a secluded little grove deep in the forest and while the majority was dense with moist heat, he had managed to find a spot in which the wind kept off most of the heat and the shadows weren’t heavy either.
Just as he was about to turn to the next page, Lukas realized that he’d read the same paragraph twice and didn’t have a clue as to what it said. Sighing, he slipped in his bookmark paper ad shut his textbook with a slump; he guessed that that was as good a sign as any that he needed a break. Laying back, allowing the grass and earth to be his bed and pillow, Lukas refrained from thinking of any more school and resorted instead to watch the clouds morph and flow far above him. He could smell rain in the air so he wouldn’t be surprised if a drizzle or something caught him while he lay out there, not that he cared much, though it would be a shame if his books got damp. For the meantime, the boy’s blue eyes glazed over the longer he stared and a nap threatened his study time.
He didn’t know how long his eyes had been closed but suddenly, Lukas was snapping them open and holding his breath, freezing. A rustle had woken him, something was moving and moving close by. Carefully, he turned over his head and blinked in surprise. A couple feet away from him, sniffing at his textbook, was a baby bunny. The Norwegian’s heart melted and quivered at the same time, oh it was so cute…. A small intake of breath showed his regret when he saw the rabbit notice his consciousness and was just about to bolt when it froze mid-hop. Almost confused, Lukas sighed when he sat up and shuffled over to the frozen rabbit. Softly he reached up and carefully pet it’s fur, humming with content at its softness, but a sliver of sadness sunk into his heart because he knew that this was only possible because the rabbit was trapped in time and would have no knowledge that this ever happened once Lukas dropped hi time bubble.
Still, for the time he had, which was as long as he wanted, he oh-so-gently continued to pet the small rodent. He didn’t want to pick it up or anything, knowing that any change in position could put the creature into shock once it was able to move again, but Lukas wished he could and cuddle it like he did to his stuffed rabbit in secret. Leaning his chin on his hand, he stroked the fur a few more times when he realized that this was the same as petting taxidermy. Sighing, he leaned back and was just about to release his bubble, when movement caught his attention and he blinked when he saw legs. Instantly, his bubble feel and he managed to just catch the white tail of the bunny disappear into the brush and Lukas frowned. Now who in their right mind would in the middle in the forest, besides him and why?
