With Gilbert's decline, Matt settled into his sandy seat to take another puff, exhaling slowly with a faint smile in his lips; it felt good to just hang out and joke around with Gilbert again, now that they had more or less moved passed all their awkward stuff. Gil did have a point though, technically they were in public, but Matt more meant by that was he couldn't light up in the middle of campus or something crazy like that, and also the Canadian was just comfortable around his roommate so whatever.
"You're almost as bad a drinker as West! It's prolly better you don't drink anymore! Heh."
The boy's smile twitched and he gave a soft chuckle but shrugged. There was no denying it, Matt was a lightweight and drinking whiskey straight has been a mistake and his actions proved it. Speaking of Gilbert's brother, Matt's thoughts drifted off on be tangent that he hadn't exactly met the guy yet, though he had seen him before and relatively knew of his powers. The classic superhero, that's how he imagined Gil's brother: handsome, tall, blond, and super strong.
"So, about the other night, I've been thinkin' about it for the past few days... and losin' sleep, too! So, uh, listen up to what I've gotta say!"
Matt looked sideways at Gil, joint hanging from between his lips, blinked, but his expression remained even, relaxed, though interested and curious as he allowed the German to speak his mind.
"I, uh... I really was really honest 'bout all that stuff. Now that I'm not all drunk 'r concussed 'r anything. And I, uh... I mean, you might not guess it with how awesome I am, but I'm not real experienced with datin' and all that, so if I say somethin' wrong, I'm sorr- I mean! I mean, uh... just sorta smack me 'r somethin'."
For a moment or two, Matthew just stared at Gilbert, expression unchanging, before he reached up and took a long drag and exhaled slowly a long plume of smoke. The smoke was making him blush, as was the white-haired boy's bold and awkward statement, but Matt remained quiet as he snubbed out the end of his smoke and set it aside on a branch to put away later.
Finally, with a smirk, Matt said, "Well, I think that I've smacked you up enough and... No, I-I think that this will work out fine. Yeah. Don't sweat it". Shrugging and grinning, Matt started to whistle and stared out at the ocean, happy.
