It was a beautiful late summer's evening, the air cool in a pleasant way that only comes after a particularly hot scorcher. The courtyard was still green and beautiful, the sound of coquis filling the air. Just a month earlier, before the students had arrived, the courtyard had been one of his favorite spots to sit and relax under a tree, as long as it wasn't too hot. With plenty of flowers and trees and grass it had always smelled and sounded very pleasant. But now as Roderich sat on a bench along the main path of the courtyard it was filled instead with the sound of students playing, small children running around, and the occasional screaming. Altogether it was decidedly much less pleasant for the the Austrian. If he weren't waiting for someone he'd find some place better to sit, but it was practical as it was along the main route out of the school.
Occasionally he had to shift his body and glare at some students messing around with their powers who got too close to him. He was a teacher, but only being 4 years older than the oldest students meant there were some students who mistook him for one of them, much to his displeasure. They would all learn better soon enough - it was not a very big school as it was - but until then he would have to deal with it.
Roderich checked his watch yet again. Vash wasn't late, Roderich had instead gotten there too early. It wasn't that he was in the habit of being very early, but he had wanted to make sure he didn't get lost along the way. For once though, he'd found the courtyard with little trouble and had ended up being 20 minutes early, though he supposed that was better than being late. Still, he hoped the Swiss man would show up sooner rather than later as he was already getting tired of glaring at rowdy children and teenagers.
