`JACK KIERAN KILGORE!
`WELCOME TO YOUR LIFE, THERE'S NO TURNING BACK!
NICKNAMES Jackie, Kilgore, Mr Kilgore, Mr K, Mr Killer, Chimney, Thug, Scotty
AGE 23?
GENDER Male
ETHNICITY Scottish
TEACHER OR STUDENT Teacher
AREA Both general guidance councilor, and teacher for basic and advanced control over elemental and kinetic powers, Jack is often one of the first members of the faculty that students really get acquainted with. Also, due to the particular durability his powers afford him, Jack is often called on to serve as a sort of living practice dummy for students with certain types of powers.
SPECIAL ABILITY(s)
Jack has the ability to physically become smoke, and can enact some small control over smoke outside of his body. He has a great degree of control over this power, and can smoothly transition between forms without much strain on his part. While he can fully become smoke, he can also choose to only have certain parts of his body turn to smoke--alternately a single arm as smoke, or everything save a single arm as smoke. As smoke, Jack can operate as smoke does--gaining the ability to pass through grates, small cracks in walls and floors, and enter lungs. More sophisticated applications of his power include deoxygenation (and the potential to give people hallucinations from lack of oxygen), atmospheric adaptation, enhanced speed (while smoke), "flight". His smoke form can perceive things with a degree of clarity far beyond anything with five senses could, and he often uses this to "feel out" in an area for other people (especially if he's somewhere he's not supposed to be, and needs to leave in a hurry). He can also perform this trick with smoke not tied to him, although this is severely more difficult to accomplish. His method of recharging his smoke power (and rebuilding his body) is through inhaling smoke, although he can absorb it through his pores as well as his mouth, and simply flowing--as smoke--through a smoke-filled area can suffice. He can also effectively heal himself from most wounds in this fashion, and does not need to be conscious to do so, as long as his body is in contact with smoke (this occurs as long as he is still alive). A definite downside is that he can, and is affected by wind. Complete dispersal of his smoke body has the potential to kill him, if it leaves him without enough substance to safely reform his body from. He is also unable to become smoke while wet.
Where there's smoke, there's fire. Jack also has the ability to physically become fire, although this power is far more volatile, and he has very little control over it. The extent of his control is to use his finger as a makeshift lighter. This power seems to be fueled by his emotions, and anger is the best fuel. While he used to be fairly hotheaded, this proved to be highly destructive, and spending multiple days out of the week with a councilor focusing on controlling his emotions became mandatory. When he is angry, however, the rule is: the angrier he is, the hotter the fire burns. Early warning signs before he literally goes up in flames are his eyes, fingernails, and hair follicles beginning to glow like embers, and smoke beginning to emanate from his mouth and nose. In his fire form, water and lack of oxygen can kill him outright.
Constant, unconscious effects of both powers include an immunity to fire (fire), thermal resistance (fire), an independence from oxygen (smoke), an immunity to poisonous gases (smoke),
Notes on powers (Will write in finished form later):
The initial power is typhokinesis. It's the ability of absorbing, controlling, and redirecting smoke and embers. Additionally, he has typho mimicry, which allows him to physically become smoke and embers. He's inhumanly fast through the use of smoke, can fling out smoke and embers as projectiles, can cause inflammable gasses to spontaneously combust, and can "fly" while in smoke form. He is also effectively intangible and invulnerable while in smoke form.
He cannot change forms or use most of his powers while wet-- liquids weigh down the ash and other particulates in the smoke.
He refuels his powers by absorbing smoke. He can do this by inhaling smoke, or traveling through smoke-filled vents and areas. For Review: The part that seems overpowered: I feel that he should also be able to heal in this fashion, and/or be able to sustain himself solely on smoke (doesn't otherwise need to eat or drink. Possibly doesn't even need to sleep). These operate under the assumption that, because he can become smoke, and absorb smoke, he is therefore able to take smoke and add it to his body. Example: reforming a missing limb or organ with smoke. This is an effect he doesn't have to consciously control, thus, he can heal while unconscious. He is unable to recover from death.
Additionally, I feel that he should be oxygen independent, and have atmospheric adaptation. Both, so that use of his powers won't outright kill him.
Additional power--
Fire mimicry (the ability to become fire). This is fueled by his emotions, and his core temperature rises in direct correlation to his anger/passion/etc., until he literally bursts into flames. He retains his general shape and ability to move on his own, even run, although he is subject to the same weaknesses and limitations as regular fire. Most notably: being doused in water while in fire form will kill him outright. Lack of oxygen, however, simply forces him out of his fire form, and knocks him unconscious in the process (there is potential for longterm psychological and nerve damage from this happening).
While fire, anything he touches can catch fire, and he is completely unable to control or redirect the spread of fire outside of his own body.
He is immune to both fire and heat as a requirement of this power. Additionally, the fluctuations in his body temperature kill off bacteria and contaminants, effectively making him immune to disease. This is subverted whenever he's depressed, as his core temperature drops to a normal human's, or lower, for the duration of his mood. As a result, he WILL get sick while depressed, without fail, because his immune system is absolute shit after never needing to fight anything off ever.
HOW DID THEY FIGURE OUT?

`EVEN WHILE WE SLEEP. WE WILL FIND YOU,
Sports - Jack is CRAZY about sports! Sadly, he is also terrible at them.
Good Cigars - He has a definite taste for the finer things. Or, at least, that's what he tells people. In reality, he likes them because he thinks they make him look cool.
Comfortable Silence - It's how he relaxes.
CHARACTER NAME DISLIKES
Small-talk - It's literally useless in every shape and form.
FEARS
QUIRKS
Wicked Smirk - Jack is very rarely without one. When not smirking, or grinning darkly, or sporting any sort of mean puckish upward bend of the lips, he is usually wearing a very thoughtful, almost emotionless expression. Or he just looks tired.
Flirtatious - Jack enjoys flirting for the sake of flirting, and it's usually utterly meaningless. While he flirts with men and women both,
OVERALL PERSONALITY
At first glance, Jack can easily be pegged as a thug. Fairly mean-spirited, with a rather sadistic sense of humor, and usually wearing some sort of cruel smirk. In reality, Jack's very far from this. He's a good-humored, easy-going "big brother" type, and is considered a lovable, puckish rogue by his friends. While he can be mean-spirited, it's generally only toward those who show disrespect to him and his friends, or put students in danger. He cannot abide foolish people putting students in danger.
Before Jack was a teacher at Asher, he was a troubled young man with super powers, living in a turbulent world that was reevaluating what it meant to be human. He was in that odd space between the first heroes and the next generation, where there were no "glory days," and no places like Asher.
Jack is a very frequent, enthusiastic participant in the hazing of freshman, and sees to it that everyone takes part equally, regardless of sex and nationality. He especially enjoys tormenting his cousins, and their hazings usually progress throughout their time at the academy.
All of this could easily be mistaken for a sadistic bend, but in reality, Jack has a very pragmatic, unhealthy philosophy. It resembles the common "might makes right," but is far more sophisticated than that. He believes that strength is of great importance, and hardship is necessary to become stronger. He doesn't see the merit in saving people from their problems-- because he feels that saving them ultimately weakens them, and makes them dependent on others. It's best to leave them be, and allow them the chance to either rise to the challenge, or crumble and fade into nothing.
Yes, for Jack, strength is very important. And he knows that this is especially true of the students at the academy, as all of them will be going into very dangerous situations once they graduate. He feels that anything he can do to help prepare them is worth whatever backlash he might receive as a result. That's why he's especially hard on his young cousins-- he wants them to be safe, and this is the best way he can see to accomplish that goal.
Now, this philosophy definitely isn't healthy, or "good." Jack knows this, and makes no attempts to pretend it's a noble pursuit. But it also isn't "evil," and he realizes this as well.
Despite his best efforts, and attempts to convince himself to the contrary, however, Jack is ultimately unable to fully personify his philosophy. There is a part of him that doesn't actually believe in it, and he is simply too kind-hearted to ignore when someone he loves is in serious trouble. He'll often want nothing more than to take away all their problems for them-- but he pacifies the part of him that deplores that behavior, by instead standing by, and supporting them.
Still, Jack is very nurturing, and generally knows exactly how to comfort people. He has fantastic bedside manners, and it's very rare when he /doesn't/ volunteer at the nurse's office, or in the kitchens.
While Jack is fairly outgoing and approachable, he's definitely an introvert, and often seeks personal time alone to unwind. He is appreciative of a good, comfortable silence, and has an utter distaste for meaningless small-talk.
