The worst thing about coming back to school was unpacking. Well, unpacking and eight in the morning classes and loads of homework, but in that moment to Ana María the worst thing about coming back was having to open her suitcase and stare at the piles of clothes that she had already dumped on her bed. Every year it was the same thing, but somehow it seemed that every year the amount of useless stuff that she had increased in size. It was quite annoying because when she had to go back home there was only a certain amount of things she could bring along that would fit into her suitcases that would not result in her paying an outrageous amount of money in excess weight fees. That was the bitch of a living.
Still somehow, today she had found a way to empty her suitcases, which was a major step forward on her account. Due to the fact that most students hadn't returned yet from the summer breaks and she had no idea who her new roommates where to be, she had all the day to herself without anything remotely interesting to do. Ana María began sorting through her things, diving shoes into a pile and clothes into another. Though her style of clothes was very simple, she seemed to have achieved a sense of fashion that appeared as though it was almost too easy, there were several key pieces that did not fit in the small closet that they gave the girls at this school.
It was yet another petition that had been rejected on her account by the school's suggestion box, along with making the rooms co-ed because it's the twenty-first century and it's so much more fun that way. Ana María considered getting a small first year to do her chores, as she had done so two years ago but it seemed that every year those small children were harder to intimidate. Of course this being a school of superhero, one small show off of her natural abilities would scare any small first year into doing as she said, but she was banned from every using her powers on eleven year-olds. After all, she didn't want to repeat the same number of detention hours as she had during her fourth year.
Reminiscing aside, Ana María ignored the pile of clothes that was still waiting to be folded and stored and decided to lay on her bed. The trip from home always left her jet-lagged. That was one of the perks of being an international student, along with risking deportation every time she snuck good food from back home through customs. No matter how many times she came back, she was always partially jet-lagged the first week, which in turn resulted in missing most of her classes, and that was not a great way to start the year.
Ana María groaned as she stared at the ceiling and took out her phone from her pocket. She dialed the first number she found. After the third ring, the call went directly to voice message. The girl was slightly disappointed but complied nonetheless. "Hey, it's Ana! What are you up to? I'm boreed. Ring me back soon." And so she closed her eyes and waited.
