Tino has the ability to communicate with plants either by verbal or telepathic means. Ok it's not like he can hold an intelligent conversation with them. Plants can respond to his emotions, speech, and thoughts through movements and growth. Just like a child if their caretaker is happy, the plants will grow strong and happy as well. While if their caretake is in a bad mood the plants will slowly wither.
However, the Finnish boy has always had a strong connections to plants and can manipulate them in his favor. Even though the plants can't physically talk back to him, they communicate back with him through different auras. Nature is everywhere and since its presence is so large, it can easily change the feel of that atmosphere. Thus, Tino could detect these changes and understand what they're trying to say. HOW DID THEY FIGURE OUT?
Tino was born into a family of farmers and spent most of his life in the countryside. Despite being the only child, he grew up into quite a handsome, happy, and responsible boy. From the day he was able to walk, Tino helped his family with the daily chores such as milking the cows, taking care of the crops, and herding the cattle. The Finnish boy was especially good with tending the crops, because each year during harvest his family's products were the biggest and juiciest. Sometimes they would even win the local competitions that the town would annually have.
He had no special technique or skill that made the plants grow they way they did. All he did was watered the plants, weeded them, talked, and sung to them everyday. Even the people who had ask his family how their crops were grown; they would just say the same thing. Unfortunately not many people believe that those were the only special and strange care that were given to the plants. However despite the uncertainty, one thing was certain: Tino is very passionate towards the crops and connected with them.
But then one day, while Tino was herding the cattle, he spotted a hungry wolf that was approaching one of his calfs. He ran towards the wolf in hope that he'd make it in time to scare it away. Suddenly a feeling of desperation took over when he saw that the wolf pounced on the little calf. Tino let out a cry and in a blink of an eye the wolf was entangled by the nearby vines. In the mist of confusion the little calf escaped and ran straight to Tino.
Since that day, Tino has been testing and strengthening his connections with plants. The family kept this a secret mainly because not many people would believe it anyways. Tino didn't mind though as long as his powers didn't cause anyone any harm.

Tino grew up in the country and mostly everyone could be found outside. The things he loves the most about the outdoors are the sports, people, and nature itself. It makes him feel empowered not just with his powers but it always makes him feel at home. The beauty of the scenery, the peacefulness, the smell of the evergreen, and being able to spend it all with his friends is just perfect. You'd always find this teen outside and only when it rains is when probably the only time he'd be inside.

Children always looked up to Tino as a friend and a caregiver/*cough*mother*cough* and he loves spending time with them and teaching them about the world. It's just something about the child's care-free attitude and curiosity that Tino just adores. Not to mention little kids are so cute (in a non-pedophile way of course).
`~✿~` CHRISTMAS
Who doesn't love Christmas but Tino is absolutely in love with everything about it the mood, the snow, the spirit, the traditions, and especially the presents. Of course he loves receiving presents but he enjoys to give them as well to all the people he holds dear.

Fish is Tino's favorite food to eat. It doesn't matter in what form whether stew, fried, or baked; it all tastes good. If he has an especially strong craving for it he doesn't mind bringing out a fishing rod and get some himself.

Tino loves celebrations and even go as far as thinking up of weird things to celebrate as an excuse to throw a party and gather everyone together. Some of the weird things he celebrate back home were matchmaking festivals, wife carrying contest, cell phone and boot throwing competitions, air guitar tournaments, and etc.

What kind of Finn doesn't love saunas? Just the feeling of your pores opening up and sharing a small hot room other people.

Tino has a sort of a sweet tooth and the candy doesn't have to be necessarily sweet. He can also enjoy the salty taste of salmiakki.

Tino loves ice hockey! Ok, he's not the best ice hockey player in the world but he loves to play and watch it!

Believe it or not he's actually a good shot with them and pretty accurate. Then again all he has ever aimed for are nonmoving targets. He would never try to shot an animal or a person without good reasons.

Tino loves drinking about 4-5 cups of coffee a day. It doesn't mean that he actually needs all the caffeine. He just enjoys the warmth, taste, and smell of it. Although some people might say that the large quantity of coffee that he consumes might explain his happy-go attitude.

Tino is quite creative and some of the things he thinks of are pretty neat such as toy design, decorations, games, and sometimes clothing. However, beware that this Finn has grown up with some of the weirdest things so not all of his ideas will be favorable. He's also caught up with some of the popular things back home like Moomins! He has the moomin mugs, moomin alarm clocks, and moomin pajamas.

Which causes his family to not be able to provide enough food to live off of. Tino believes that no one should have to go through that sort of hardship if it can be helped. Whether it be due to being around a rather scary person or just the atmosphere being very eerie, Tino can't stand being stuck in this sort of situation. Not because he's scared,(ok maybe it's because he's scared) but he just find these sort of situations unbearable and try his best to avoid them at all cost. He can't even stand watching scary movies in the dark.

Why would you cut/kill a perfectly healthy plant and give it to someone else as a gesture of kindness.. Tino will still reluctantly accept it but if you are to admire some thing. Doing so afar is in Tino's opinion usually the best way to admire anything.

Despite his slender, fragile stature and calling himself a fragile flower, he has his pride of being a man. He refuses to be referred as a girly or anything of that sort. Tino even has the strength of a man too, due to years of yard work.

Another one of his pet peeves, as much as he loves company. Tino would like at least an hour notice so he could tidy up and prepare some snacks. He'd hate to be a bad host and its difficult to prepare things with so little time.

Even now Tino hates to be alone in a room for more than a few hours. Tino loves to interact and laugh with others, especially his close friends and family. However, the thought of being alone for a long period of time just freaks him out.

He actually puts a lot of trust in those he's close to. So even the smallest thing like forgetting to meet up with hime somewhere could really put a damper on his mood for days. So when you actually promise him something please follow it through. He also does his best to fulfill his promises as well.

It's obvious that he's far from perfect, but Tino tries his best to be responsible. So he's afraid of letting people down, even if its a small favor. This also leads to Tino's fear that he'd end up as completely useless due to his incompetence.
QUIRKS
`~✿~` INCREDIBLE STAMINA
Despite fragile appearance, he can endure extremely high to low temperatures. One time he went out in a blizzard with just a light jacket and boots to get some fire wood. When asked if he was cold, Tino just shrugged it off and said that it was just like normal just a lot windier. As far as high temperatures, Tino can spend hours in the sauna or a hot spring without getting even a little dizzy. Along with sternous temperatures, he can put up with a lot of labor and heavy lifting as well. He doesn't have super human strength but he's defiantly stronger than he looks.
`~✿~` THINKING OUT LOUD
Tino tends to mix up his thoughts with his what he says a lot. That's why maybe in the middle of a conversation he might say something unrelated like "I'm so tired" or "I don't even remember what I had for lunch today".
`~✿~` GIVING THINGS/PEOPLE WEIRD NAMES AND NICKNAMES
He's very bad at names, one time he almost named a dog he found "Bloody Flower-Egg". Please do not give him the responsibility of naming anything. He could come up with some terrifying names.
OVERALL PERSONALITY
Polite - Right off the back you can tell from his language and friendliness that he's extremely nice and polite to strangers. He likes to hold up conversations if possible. He also always is willing to provide a helping hand. Even if you're the one being rude to him, he's not the kind of person to get angered easily. There's probably not a single rude bone in his body.
Cheerful - This Finn loves the company of others and hope that they enjoy his company as well. He's also quite optimistic and like to look on the bright side of situations. He could be seen smiling most of the time and making others happy. Then again, some people might find him irritable since he talks a lot. His cheerfulness is not of the typical hyperactive kind or a sort of bubbly-flirtatious kind either, it is a rather a calming and content sort of cheerfulness. Once you becomes friends with him, he's quite the dependable guy and will never leave you.
Gentle - Often times Tino likes to refer himself as a gentle, delicate flower, but don't take that in a wrong way. He's just been taught to always be very mild mannered. He's not one for violence whatsoever, he's more of the talk out over coffee and snacks kind of person. He likes to see when everyone gets along, but of course he knows very well that it can't always be the case. In that sort of situation, he enjoys being the referee and try to sort out the issue. Despite it all, Tino's no push over (unless you're unbelievable scary, but other than that), if he finds that he's in the right then he can be quite stubborn.
Simple - Growing up in the country, really made him appreciate all the small things that makes him happy. He really doesn't need too much to be happy just some friends and some tasty snacks. However that does not make him a simpleton or simple minded. He's actually quite level-headed, logical, and smart. It takes a really sharp person to be able to read the mood and atmosphere you know?
Sympathetic - Tino tries his best to keep the mood happy and so if he sees that some people are uncomfortable he'll try to lighten the mood with corny jokes or just try talking to them. He's also a great communicator: he's always willing to talk it out, listen, and speak his mind.
Hardworking - Even thought Tino might not seem like it but he's quite a hardworking person when it comes to school, relationships, and chores. When he's asked to do something he always sees it to the end and tries his best.
Honest - This is probably best called the grey area of his personality. It's not fully bad and not fully good. Tino is a very honest guys if he sees a wallet on the floor he'd probably drop it off to the nearest police station. He's also a pretty terrible liar and can't keep secrets to save his life. He's like an open book, you could probably read his mood, thoughts, and life story in his facial expressions. Also due to his honesty, he's very honest with himself; if he knows that he cannot keep a promise or complete something he would tell you that he's not that type of person and not right for the job.
Motherly - This is still the grey area, Tino loves to look after others especially his friends and family. He's decent when it comes to cooking, listening, and comforting others. It's just in his nature to be calming and nurturing. However, it can turn out bad if you don't take care of yourself. He is often known to,
Sensitive - Despite Tino being an honest guy, his feelings can easily get hurt. He doesn't have the highest self-esteem in the world so some people's critics could really bring this Finn down. Thus, when his feelings get hurt he's not his usual logical self. It doesn't mean that he gets out of control but he'll spend some time in the corner moping around. Along with that, he really doesn't know how to take a compliment. He'll most likely think that you're just saying that but secretly he really likes it when he gets praised.
Complicated - Ok, I know that I put that he's very simple but there are parts of him that are complicated. For example, he knows that he can be very fragile at times, however he doesn't want you to treat him like some sort of flower or girl because he is a man. He can do things for himself and hates it when someone else insists to do things for him. It just makes him feel less manly. However if you treat him too much like a man, he'd probably get scared off. So you have to find some sort of balance with him.
Worrisome - Last but not least, he gets very worried when he knows that something is wrong or gets a feeling that something bad might happen.

"Another day of hard work…" Tino thought to himself. "Man I'm so exhausted…" The Finnish boy has spent his morning milking the cow, refilling the stables with fodder, and cutting some wood. Sweat was dripping off of the young boy's slim face and neck. "Since I'm already wet, I might as well water the crops." he smiled a toothy smile and walked over to the field. "Good morning my lovelies, how are you today?" he greeted them as he filled up the watering can.
Tino took his time and made sure that each plant had received plenty of water. "Hmm… hmmhm… hmhmhmm.." It was just another one of those ordinary day on the farm. Tino was singing and humming his usual songs as he cared for the crops. Of course, he was busying himself with watering and weeding that he didn't even notice that the postman had walked right up to him.
"My, my they're looking strong and healthy as always." The postman observed them one by one. The boy was startled but happily replied, "Oh, you think so, Mr. Alho?". The man silently nodded and said, "Before I forget, there's a letter for you. Well so long!" "Wait a letter from me? Who could it be from?" Tino wiped his wet and dirty hands on his clothing and received the white letter and written in the fanciest handwriting was addressed to Tino Väinämöinen.
"It's probably some funny advertisement like if you wanted to go out and see some sort of tropical island or something like that sort. No one has ever sent me such a fancy letter." Tino thought and opened the letter and read the contents which were inside. Well he was half right, it was a trip to an island, Hawaii, to be exact, but it was an acceptance letter to a school there. "I don't remember applying to a school.." He said out loud as he continued to read. It looks like the secret got out that he had powers. He really didn't think it was special, but an opportunity to enhance his powers was something worth moving away from home for a while. Even his crops agreed, they filled him with emotions of excitement and sadness. "Don't you worry little plants, I'll be back soon."
