`RAIVIS GALANTE (LATVIA)!
`WELCOME TO YOUR LIFE, THERE'S NO TURNING BACK!
NICKNAMES Rai?
AGE 15
GENDER Male
ETHNICITY Latvian
TEACHER OR STUDENT Student
GRADE 4th
SPECIAL ABILITY(s)
Invisibility: Raivis has the ability to become invisible. Simple and clear. Anyone around him would see right through him... Unfortunately, he has not mastered it completely, and sometimes turns invisible by accident whenever he gets especially nervous or is surprised.
Invisibility (on Others): While he cannot make a whole second person invisible, he can make small objects invisible if he's touching them. Ex: His clothes, a pen, a book... He cannot do this unless the part of him touching it (ie: his hand on his notebook) is also invisible, so it's not exactly flawless.
HOW DID THEY FIGURE OUT?
Raivis grew up in Riga, Latvia, and didn't particularly stand out much. Whether at home, at school, or just out in the streets, nothing really drew attention toward him. He went about his daily schedule without much bother, trying to work his way through school and life in general, the only real highlight being reading.
Everything seemed normal until that fateful day... Raivis went to school, ran into one of the older kids, accidentally ran into him and made him drop his books. As soon as his first was raised and a threat was uttered, Raivis panicked, wishing to be anywhere but right where he was at that time. And suddenly, he wasn't anymore - well, in a way. He vanished completely.
It only took the confused looks from the students around him to drive him to a mirror. Once he saw that there was no reflection, he ran home as quickly as possible, still panicking. He didn't turn visible again until he got tired out about two hours later, finally able to calm down enough to change back. His parents enrolled him in Asher Academy immediately, and he has since been trying to learn to better control his abilities.

`EVEN WHILE WE SLEEP. WE WILL FIND YOU,
Romance Novels: Raivis is a sucker for these. He could sit with his nose buried in a book for hours, and romances are his favourite kind. He has a secret stash of harlequins in his room, under his bed.
Poetry: Something has always come across as especially charming about poetry. He isn’t fond of the darker themed ones (like Poe or Gorey, both of which I am quite a fan), but prefers historical ones or more romantic ones. Anyone who wrote him a poem would surely earn a lot of praise.
Drinking: Despite his young age, he got into it early, and can hold his own in a drinking match surprisingly well. He occasionally brags about even being able to beat a Russian or an Dane in a competition.
Birds: Birds have always been one of his favourite animals, possibly because they always look so free and content. Their songs are relaxing and they always seem to be associated with romance or joy.
Flowers: They’re beautiful, often described in poetry, and make him feel good just to look at or smell. His favourite are daisies. Anyone who got him flowers could easily win his affection, and he’s always making flower-crowns for friends.
Snow: Living in Hawaii, he has grown to miss the snow, which reminds him of his home back in Latvia. He’s been working on collecting some snow globes, which he thinks are beautiful.
RAIVIS DISLIKES
Heat Waves: In Hawaii, the heat is already more than what he might have liked to live with, but not unbearable. His only worries are that one summer a heat wave might hit, and humidity isn’t nice either.
Traps: Bear traps, cages, mouse-traps; anything particularly cruel that can snap isn’t to his taste. He tries to get rid of them if he sees them lying around, setting them off so that something else wont stumble into it.
Darkness: Dark rooms, alleys, the woods… He always keeps a flashlight in his bedside table in case the power goes up, and wont venture into dark areas like attics or basements unless someone else is there.
Thunder Storms: Raivis feels so powerless when it comes to weather, and thunderstorms are especially unnerving. He doesn’t mind the rain as much as the lightning.
Isolation: He doesn’t want to be alone, especially not in wide open areas. He’s afraid of getting lost and fears loneliness.
Spiders: They just creep him out ,especially since he can never get away from them because they’re everywhere.
FEARS
Being Lost: He is terrified of ending up lost with no way to gather his bearings. He rarely ever goes exploring unless he has someone else with him.
Pain: Raivis is one of those kids who will spill every secret he knows at the threat of being hit. He really doesn’t handle pain very well at all.
The Dark: He hates it, absolutely hates it. He can’t stand not being able to find his way around and worries about whatever might be lurking unseen.
QUIRKS
Stuttering: Raivis stutters when he gets nervous.
OVERALL PERSONALITY
Raivis is a more withdrawn boy, more timid and submissive when it comes to socializing. He can be polite and professional if need be, but he gets awfully shy in most casual chats, especially upon first meetings. Generally, he's a good-natured boy, offering common curtesy to most. He is easily intimidated, avoiding people who looked especially frightening (either because they are tall or wear a scowl
One unfortunate fact is that Raivis has a knack for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, and will often get into trouble for saying something that any sane person would have kept as a thought. He loves poetry and romance novels, being quite the romantic himself - he'd love to find friendships or love interests like what he reads about in the fanciful books he keeps hidden in various places (your back-pack and your locker don't count as hidden, Raivis), and while he seems to have set his expectations quite high, he easily fawns over little things like exchanging gifts of anything involving flowers. He often misses his home, Latvia, and it quite proud of his heritage, sporting national colours on important days (he can sing the national anthem quite well).
Despite his more innocent face and young age, this kid is mean in a drinking contest - mean as in good. He brags about it sometimes, and likes to sneak a bottle of balsam up to his room on weekends to enjoy a drink with friends (or occasionally drown his sorrows). Raivis is a giggly drunk. Another feature of his that might not seem to fit is the fact that he can be quite sneaky; he'll manage to get things that seemed impossible for him to accomplish sometimes, and people aren't always sure about how. He only ever sneaks about for emergencies (for example, he needs get access to a paper from school after hours and sneak a peak at the grades), and most of the time it's because someone else got him to.
Raivis is not stupid, he's just easily controlled by intimidation. Someone who knows what he's afraid of can easily control him, and he'd rather go along with it than fuss over it. While he is shy, he tries to look out for people he cares about, and is much more likely to defend someone else than to defend himself (though you shouldn't count on him to come to the rescue, he is still kinda a scaredy cat). He's very sentimental, unable to throw away cards from years ago; he'll often create flower crowns or hand-made presents for his friends.
`ACTING ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR, TURN YOUR BACK ON MOTHER NATURE!
[/ul]((I originally wrote this back before i changed his power. Beforehand, he was able to talk to animals, so that's why this one is different. I can do another one, but I was wondering if it would be okay to leave this one...))
It was another average day. With a clear sky and a cool breeze, the weather was a pleasant as can be. Violet eyes were fixed up toward the canopy of tangled tree branches overhead, a journal clutched tightly to his chest. He gave a deep sigh, blinking slowly, a faint smile on his face. He loved days like these; they were days he could write on, days when he could forget that he was going to be sent away in a little less than a week. He knew nothing about Asher Academy, of the other kids that would be going there or what they could do, and yet none of that seemed to matter.
He was happy.
Raivis finally pulled himself up, having been lying on his back. He could hear chirping coming from overhead, a sweet little melody from the birds flutterings about and around their nest. To him, however, it wasn't just chirping - it never was. It was never just meowing or barking or neighing. He watched as a pair of robins flew up to one of the branches, settling into a nest they had built together just recently. He pulled himself back up to his feet, keeping his journal close at all times, a safe full of poems and short stories he had jotted down through the last few months. Journals filled up quickly, with the Latvian, and he never had the same one for more than maybe four months.
"Good morning, Raivis," one bird chirped, recognizing him from the farmhouse not too far away.
"Good morning," he smiled as he greeted them back, waving shyly. He would have to start on his way back home; he was supposed to be packing, getting ready for his trip. He was nervous about leaving home, especially when he didn't know what to expect. As he made his way back home, the farther he got away from his peaceful little spot at the edge of the woods, he lost that sense of comfort which was replaced by a sense of foreboding. Oh, he really didn't know what was about to happen... Everything was up in the air, he was being moved to a whole new place, and he had no clue about what the other kids could do. He could listen in to animals; he heard that other kids could fly or control fire, which was much more frightening.
The only thing he could really do was hope for the best.
He was happy.
