Three o' clock in the morning was the perfect time to sneak out of the dorms. It gave just enough time before morning to do the job quickly and return, and was late enough into the night that the patrols around the halls were at their weakest. Unfortunately, to be able to do anything at three in the morning without being all sloppy from drowsiness required preemptive action, namely sleeping through virtually all classes for that day and taking a nap right after school. Also some coffee, generous amounts of it.
But with all that lazing around and drinking caffeine done and over with, Catalina was ready to infiltrate the forbidden section of the library. It sounds almost anticlimactic, taking all this trouble to sneak into a library of all places; however, Cat had a very good reason to find a certain book in a certain, student-free area restricted for teacher research. It's kind of ridiculous how the librarians didn't move all those 'forbidden' books to a different room so that students won't even know about it, instead of just fencing it out and having someone guard it all the time. Then again, the number of ridiculous things in this school is ridiculous in itself, and sometimes Cat wonders if it's just put up there as a challenge for those who need specific information about certain "dangerous" topics.
Case studies about accelerated decay and related abilities would most likely count in that "dangerous" category. Cat's own powers would too, but Mihai's were a priority since he always has to wear gloves around to keep people from balding early and he goes through them so quickly too. He needed some way to dampen his ability, she only wanted some tips on improving.
Catalina stood right inside the library, staying still right beside the door where she couldn't be seen from the side. It was actually 3:12 now and her brother should be coming soon; it'd be rather rude of him to not arrive, considering this whole mission is for him. She'd still do her job even if he didn't arrive, though, but she'd add a couple random books and "accidentally" give the wrong ones first if that were the case.
