Matthew sighed loudly, but the sound was lost in the loud cafeteria.
The Canadian youth hadn’t been in the knock-off Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, minus the coolness of the American East coast, for long but thus far he still hadn’t quite warmed up to the atmosphere quite yet. The schoolwork was easy, he had located his proper dorm, but he mostly kept to himself, but it wasn’t all his fault…. People just didn’t notice him. Even now, in the hustling and bustling lunchroom, cliques of students were laughing and talking amongst themselves, the sounds of bags opening, chip bags popping and the crisp sound of a soda can being opened filled the air and Matt was just standing off the side like a loner idiot.
Rubbing his arm before reaching up and adjusting his glasses, the blonde made his way around the throngs of school uniform-clad students to get into the thinning lunch line. His chin was slightly tucked in, he didn’t make eye contact with anyone, and no one seemed to notice him a bit. Hell, a few times the boy behind him bumped into him as if he’d forgotten that the space in front of him was currently occupied. Each time, Matt would smile sweetly and wave off the awkward and rushed apology, and then was forgotten once more.
It wasn’t long before he reached the lunch counter, was able to grab a tray and starting to fill it up when movement in front of him caught his attention. The girl whom he had been following the last few minutes, a shorter girl with short blonde hair, suddenly turned to reach back for something she had missed, a bowl of pudding, and began to put it on her tray when the guy behind Matt once more bumped into him, once again forgetting he existed, and the girl’s bowl of pudding ended up directly on Matt’s shirt.
“Tabarnac…” he cursed subtly, reverting to his natural French, and sighed.
