Matthew exited the classroom and winced, overcome somewhat from the sound of other students flooding into the hallway. It seemed alive with students that'd soon, like himself, head for the Cafeteria and spend their lunch-break eating whatever food they decided on. The walls, though his arms couldn't reach across the entire corridor, made him uncomfortable without anyone even surrounding him yet. Enough thoughts rushed around inside his head that he couldn't brace himself against the onslaught that'd come from having countless voices crowded around him.
Rather than being caught within the crowd, he padded forward, leaving the classroom area behind as his arm tightened around the textbook he carried. The hard cover pressed noticeably against his side and gave him something he focused on, keeping the words that blended together inside his mind from pulling him entirely into the mix. 'There's no ice cream...' Another thought drove out the first one before it could've finished. His eyes became less focused despite the tense pressure he'd been putting on the textbook until that moment and his grip loosened some.
It wasn't like putting one foot before the other gave him much that'd keep him focused on the present. When the corner loomed within his field of vision, one mere stride from his nose, he stumbled from the abrupt interruption before continuing around it. Matthew made it another three paces before the unknown memory struck burying what thoughts that'd still been present beforehand. His hands brought the ham sandwich toward his mouth and beyond it he noticed the familiar garden courtyard, it seemed rather calm since many remained inside for lunch. Not everyone though... The memory faded but where it stopped made him certain he hadn't been alone in his normal eating spot. He cocked his head wondering who might've eaten lunch with him when it suddenly struck him that he was approaching the Cafeteria.
Nor was there a ham sandwich clutched within his hands anymore, making him start and his fingers lost their grasp around the textbook letting it drop toward the ground. "Oh, maple!" Matthew said, his soft voice made it several feet from him before becoming inaudible for anyone further away but as he started reaching after the book another thought interrupted him. 'Was she behind me the entire time I was walking here? If so then I didn't notice.'
Someone was right behind him? He glanced over his shoulder with curiosity spread rather distinct across his features, brightening them as much as the violet eyes did.
