Afonso sighed to himself. The Hawaiian springs were really lovely; not swelteringly hot just yet, just comfortably warm enough with the occasional gratuitous breeze; carrying the sweet scent of what flowers had begun to bloom and the faintest whiff of the seabreeze. It really reminded him of spring back home if anything else. Home was awfully far away to begin with, and only seemed to get further and further with each semester that passed. But just to his luck he'd happened to have stumbled upon a little taste of home.
Well, sort of.
João, one of the boys in his dorm just so happened to be Brazilian. He also happened to love football, swimming, coffee and generally being lazy too. It just seemed a little bit too perfect to be true; so the best course of action was definitely to socialise with him. They were going to be sharing a dorm for what Afonso assumed to be a semester at the very least, so it wouldn't hurt to start getting to know his roommates. Plus, he could probably do with trying to get out and interact with people a bit more, instead of sleeping so much. It could only do him good really.
He thought so anyways. But he'd been waiting for João for well over an hour by this point; and while the weather was lovely and the birds were singing and it was a nice day, he didn't have the patience of a saint, and Afonso couldn't help getting a little bit anxious. He flicked back to the text message the boy had sent him earlier."encontrar-me pela academia!"
... Well he was certainly in the right place. He cocked his head a little bit and peered around the courtyard, but the youth wasn't anywhere to be found. What with Afonso's technological skills being somewhat redundant, he was hesitant to try and text João regarding his apparent unfashionably-late tendencies, but he really wasn't too keen on waiting on the Brazilian any longer. He'd been waiting by the school for ages. Why did he even want to meet him at the school anyway? There wasn't anything to do there besides learning and that certainly wasn't on Afonso's agenda by any means.
Really, the more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Why on earth would they meet by the school? The island wasn't that big; if they were going to go somewhere of interest it made more sense to meet there...."encontrar-me pela academia!"
Afonso's gut dropped for a moment, before proceeding to punch in the boy's number into the phone. He wasn't totally inept, he could manage a phone call; and if his suspicions were correct...
"Ei, moço. Where are you, exactly?"
